Michael Tolf: Music/Lyrics
"When We're Apart" - from the album "My Greatest Need"
(Michael Tolf)
Morning without you
Frost on my window
Pain I feel inside
Should I call you
Should I tell you
All that's on my mind
We both know that it's not the past
That causes all the pain
And if I can't have you in my life
I'll never be the same
So I'm sending out a prayer my love
Trusting you're ok
Knowing that when you're gone
I always feel this way
For the pain I feel when you're not here
Cuts into my heart - when we're apart
Sometimes I wonder
Wonder if I could make it on my own
After a long day
Walk inside and find that I'm alone
If you take one look at me
You'll surely understand
When you need someone to guide you
I'll extend my hand
So I'm sending out a prayer my love
Trusting you're ok
Knowing that when you're gone
I always feel this way
For the pain I feel when you're not here
Cuts into my heart - when we're apart
STORY BEHIND THE SONG
I started writing the music to this song in 1988. The words started to come in 1992, when my wife and I were going through a very tough valley. Ironically, 14 years later, I now "find myself alone - and wonder if I can make it on my own."
Still, by God's grace, I send out a prayer every night - trusting she's ok. And I know now that I'll be ok too - resting in God's plans...in His hands.
